KAOS Kids is known within the community as a purveyor of quality toys, games and children’s clothing. New owner and lifelong Squamish resident Marie-Louise Towers has watched KAOS from its beginning and is having fun building on the store’s existing success while she engages with the community she loves. Of the store’s merchandise, Towers says: “It`s not what you`re going to find in your big box store.”
The store specializes in educational and developmental toys. At KAOS Kids, you’ll find accessories to an intelligent, outdoorsy, ethical lifestyle. For children.
The unique toys at KAOS Kids represent the eternal interests of children and their parents: education, development, science, craft, make-believe and nature. This means wooden puzzles, solar print paper, pirate costumes, archaeological digs in a box, as well as toys and games designed to teach manners, good citizenship, and respect for the Earth. The store carries brands such as Hape, a company that considers environmental and social responsibility when developing its toys from sustainable material like bamboo.
The best toys defy age ranges and the store carries many clever games, which can be enjoyed equally by adults and children. The spherical maze toy Perplexus presents a challenge for puzzlers from the age of four to 94. The game Suspend challenges all family members to hang and balance rubber-tipped wires until the structure collapses. This is a creation of the ever-popular toy company Melissa and Doug, perhaps best known for its award-winning toys and classic wooden favourites. KAOS also carries other fun Melissa and Doug items: costumes, puppets and play food for dramatic play, as well as craft materials for rainy days.
The store sells dear little Merino wool pajamas in fun colours usually displaying peacocks and melons. To the delight of those moms and dads who were children of the 1980s, KAOS also sells the classic K-Way jacket in miniature versions. It‘s still rainproof and it still folds up into that nostalgic little bundle you can buckle around a waist. Locals’ life isn’t always staged on a forest trail. Sometimes the occasion calls for a matching rosette-patterned faux fur hat-and-coat set, adorned with rhinestone buttons —without a drive to the big city. KAOS has it. For the tiniest of tinies, the store has expanded its collection of baby gear to include can’t-live-without items like diaper bags. It also carries a gorgeous array of locally knit blankets, organic cotton sleepwear and muslin blankets.
Children are always invited to play at KAOS Kids. Let the little ones meet around the train table or at the dollhouse to explore and play while you check out what’s new to the store, in preparation for the holiday season.
